However insignificant the minority, and however trifling the proposed trespass against their rights, no such trespass is permissible.

Individual Rights

This is what it's all about and what's truly at the core of Operation Mollycoddle.

We're each afforded certain rights in life. As individuals we have the right to live our own life as we see fit and make our own choices. To enjoy this freedom, a couple of crucial elements must be respected; namely the ability to make potentially wrong decisions and face the consequences as such, and the ability to do things that may result in harm to ourselves.

We may poke fun at things with the whole "nanny" or "mommy" thing, but the truth of the matter is quite real. When other people or entities (i.e. government) step and and forcibly protect us from ourselves, they strip us of our right to live as free individuals. They take away choice and consequence and do so in the name of keeping us from harming ourselves.

I could be wrong here... But did any of us ask to be saved from ourselves? Did anybody ask to have choice and consequence taken from us?

This is why we advocate so strongly for our right to live free.

We love the fact that we can make choices that others don't agree with. After all, if we don't have that, what have we really got?

When is it ever OK to marginalize somebody for their choices?

We all have the right to live free.

My son and I were on a recent trip to Seattle to visit my grandson who is in college. He took us sightseeing at the Space Needle. We were on a stroll back to the car and as my son and I lit up, a family walked past us. I heard a kid's voice say sneeringly, "QUIT SMOKING!"
